In 1967 the Graff family opened a small shoe repair shop at 47 Forum Center in Chesterfield, Missouri, where they did large volumes of business. Then in 1989, the Graff's sold out to another couple who had no experience running a shoe repair business.
Later that same year, the couple hired someone experienced in repairing shoes. This turned out to be the best decision this couple had made while running the store. This repairman made the name "Graff's Shoe Repair" legendary throughout St. Louis County.
After working for Graff's for approximately 10 years, the shoe repairman was offered the chance to purchase the business. Mike Hohrein is that shoe repairman and is the present owner. Mike was very experienced when he came to Graff's. He has more than 27 years experience not only working in shoe repair but leather cleaning as well.
Mike has won several awards, including the "best shoe repair" in West County St. Louis all three years that the contest was held. He also received a certificate of excellence from the United States government while servicing Scott Air Force Base in O’Fallon, Illinois. Mike is considered by his peers as one of the top 20 shoe repairmen in the country. In addition, several of his customers and past co-workers have referred to him as having "hands of gold."
After residing in the same location for nearly 40 years, in November of 2006, MIke decided to move the business to its current location just across the street. The new location is much better and larger. The additional space has allowed Graff's to expand its retail business.
Although "Merriam-Webster" defines a cobbler as "a mender or maker of shoes and often of other leather goods", Mike does not like to be referred to as a "cobbler". The reason for this is because "Merriam-Webster" also defines a cobbler as "a clumsy workman". This is something Mike definitely is not. Any of the customers who have ever walked through our doors and had work done will tell you the same.
Just as the original Graff family did, Graff’s Shoe Service still continues to do large volumes of business and will always represent the very best in our products and services and hopefully present a little humor to all of our customers as well.
